Who does not like peaceful sleep? Most people enjoy the quiet stillness of the dark night while other enjoy the light sounds of specific noises, e.g. box fan, ocean waves, etc. Whatever helps you in achieving a peaceful night of sleep, do it. However, if you do not know how to achieve a peaceful night sleep, here are three tips to help lead you into a peaceful night sleep:

  1. Appreciate the idea of rest throughout the day
  • Make your bed first thing. Appreciate the place where you sleep. If you do not have quality bedding, consider investing in it. Some mattresses are expensive. However, getting quality sleep is the most important habit for a healthier lifestyle. Consider Layla Sleep which offers quality bedding that is organic and affordable.

  • Eat all meals before dark. Ensuring that you do not eat after dark will help you focus more on sleeping than eating. If you find yourself always eating late into the night, e.g. having your dinner around 10p, consider what is happening with your schedule. Even if you work late at night or third shift, just switch your eating schedule so that you still can achieve a peaceful sleep.
  • Express gratitude for life and the opportunity to rest at the end of the day. Be thankful for the concept of sleep. We take sleep for granted because we do not think it is that important. I suggest study the benefits of sleep. Oftentimes when we are sick or experiencing medical issues, the key is getting quality rest. Consider the last time you stayed in the hospital. What did you do? Rest.
    2. Set a time for bedtime (even when to start your routine) and stick to it. My husband and closest friends know that I do not play about my bedtime. Since having a baby, I have had to adjust. BUT – please know it is not that far of an adjustment! I may not get my full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, but I ensure I get quality and peaceful sleep not matter when or how long.
    3. Have a bedtime routine. Do whatever you need to do to de-stress and let go of everything that you had to handle in the day. Drop all the balls from the juggling of the day. This includes:
  • Shut off the TV, cell phone, other electronics.
  • Alarm clock needs to be where you need to get out of bed to turn off
  • Read, journal, shower/bath. I love a good detox bath or shower. I know I had to figure out the shower method. These are what works for me for a bath and shower: Dr. Teal Epsom salt with the lavender essential oil. This one is well-known. Trusted brand, Dr Teal. The Epson salt with the lavender is truly the best! Now, the same brand has a body scrub that is amazing for shower usage. This scrub has a special oil that when you put it on, it clings to your skin. Not in an abrasive way but gentle yet it helps mimic the effect of soaking in a tub of Epsom salt. I normally will wet my body first then move the shower head to the side while the hot water runs so I can still feel the warmth. I then put the scrub all over me and rub those sore spots for a few minutes or just stand there for a bit breathing in the lavender scent. Once ready, I rinse off and it is like you did a soak in the tub with the Epsom salt!
I hope you these tips helps. I do believe we all need peaceful sleep! Let me know how you ensure a peaceful, night sleep – leave your comments below.
